New Bus for Bierley Community Association
New Bus for Bierley Community Association
Bierley Community Association runs The Life Centre, a community centre in the heart of Bierley housing estate in Bradford. The facility has been the beating heart of the community for many years and provides multiple services to residents including benefits advice, counselling and exercise for the over 60s.
They received funding to purchase a community minibus to help them reach isolated older people, disengaged young people and families. The minibus has been a great success with the centre reporting a big increase in service users now that accessible transport is available. The group gave us a breakdown of how the bus has been used so far:
82 Exercise Classes
72 Friday Friends - Crafts / games / trips
42 Bingo sessions
19 Cover to Cover Book club
22 Senior council meetings
71 Asda Shopping Bus
64 Home Visits
2 Christmas Meals
3 Cinema trips
The bus is utilised 7 days a week by the community association and other charitable groups in the area including The Vine, St Christopher’s and Bierley Bethel.
