Bowling fun for all ages in Glasgow
Partickhill Bowling and Community Club (PHBCC) recently made the transition from bowling club to a bowling and community club.
This re-invention was borne out of the desire to grow the club through additional "non-bowling" activity and to maintain a green space within the community in the heart of the west end of Glasgow. The club exists to promote the sport of lawn bowls and provide a hub for community activities such as classes, family and social events to suit and attract all age groups.
With a grant of £2,000 in July 2019 from Postcode Local Trust, the organisation has been able to run weekly blocks of fun bowling, targeting people from 18 to 60+ years old. These activities will improve health & wellbeing, tackle social exclusion and offer the opportunity for people from different age groups to socialise together. Working with local residential homes and student groups will allow as many people as possible to benefit physically and mentally from being active and sociable. Certificates and celebration events with achievement rewards will enable them to promote sustained activity and community engagement.
