Dance and disability project in Wales
Rubicon launched in 1976 and is the community dance development organisation for Cardiff and Newport. They can be found working in day-care settings, schools, hospitals and other community venues.
In 2017 they received £8,420 for their ‘Dance and Disability’ project in Cardiff. This has enabled a specialist dance leader to deliver weekly sessions including a ‘High Support Needs’ session for adults with disabilities.
They also engaged with two local special needs high schools to deliver weekly dance sessions to 12-19 year old pupils with disabilities. As a direct result of the project they have discovered a demand, using contacts with local schools and Disability Sport Wales to create a Dance and Disability programme for children with a range of disabilities which they are looking to develop on a wider scale in late 2018.
