Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the Inspire Project was able to train six young people to become peer mentors to help children with severe learning and emotional issues. These children receive one on one support which helps them remove barriers that can prevent them from fulfilling their true potential in life. Six peer mentors also participated in ‘Being a Good Mentor and Safeguarding Children’ training. They contributed an extraordinary 300 hours of voluntary time to help over 30 children make a successful transition from primary to secondary school.

The peer mentors took an active role in planning and delivering workshops, supporting the children and young people and increasing their confidence both in and out of school. These workshops increased the emotional resilience of the children and increased their engagement and participation both in school and the wider community.
