Pioneering Scottish sports 'think and do' tank
Observatory for Sport in Scotland (OSS) is the first Scottish sports ‘think and do’ tank bringing together evidence with best practice at the frontline of community sports development to grow sports opportunities for all people.
They applied to Postcode Community Trust to set-up the ‘sports for people network’. The network is developing dialogue involving groups across all sports including disabled sport, social deprivation in sport, social enterprises, local leisure trusts and Scottish Universities. The plan was that the network would positively change frontline practice through knowledge exchange, media awareness and empowering community sport workers and volunteers.
With our funding they have supported 220 organisations across Scotland. They have commissioned research and academic papers and organised 10 think events across the project period. OSS' body of engaged stakeholders now attend events, receive newsletters and knowledge which they share with their volunteers and colleagues. Through this work they have been able to identify the 'drivers' (gender, austerity, technology etc) that are impacting the sports in the Scottish sector. This feedback is going forward to government consultations, ensuring that the voice and needs of groups across Scotland are being heard.
