Power Hockey for all in the North West!
The Greenbank Project’s mission is "to enhance the opportunities and status of disabled people through education, training, employment, transport, sport and recreation".
As an organisation run by and for disabled people, it understands the issues faced by people with disabilities and works hard to offer relevant opportunities, which can make a real difference to people's lives. The services offered by the charity are provided by the Greenbank Sports Academy and Greenbank College.
Through a grant from Postcode Community Trust, Greenbank Project will introduce 600 young disabled people to Power Hockey. Power Hockey uses specially developed electric wheelchairs that enable severely disabled people to shoot a ball at the press of a button or tackle each other safely. Young men with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy love the game, and it adds significantly to their quality of life. The project will carry out ‘Come & Try’ sessions in Liverpool, Leeds, North Wales & Manchester, with the hope to develop clubs in these areas.
