Providing a safe and welcoming environment for older men in Colden Common
The Colden Common Shed is a charity that provides a safe, welcoming location for older men who live in Colden Common and surrounding villages.
It offers a self-directed space for participants to take part in constructive activity such as woodworking, as well as social events, that can help address the isolation that can be experienced by men after they retire. The charity provides people with a place to meet new friends and regain a sense of purpose.
The organisation applied to Postcode Community Trust to fund three new timber sheds that could be used as a workshop, a social area and the third as a storage shed.
Thanks to support from Postcode Community Trust, the three sheds have now been erected, allowing the charity to increase its capability of offering more social activities and enabling it to attract new members who may not necessarily have practical skills. The three new sheds are allowing the organisation to support more people and having a significant impact on reducing the social isolation often be experienced by men in retirement in Colden Common and the surrounding area.
